If you aren’t creative, finding or making costumes for your kids can be very stressful. This is true, especially if you need to create a costume from scratch. If you are short on time and creativity, a store bought costume is usually the best answer to your problem. However, it can be difficult to choose the perfect costume given all the options available.
If this is the case, you may want to take a look at the Alice In Wonderland costumes available for your kids. Alice is one of those classic characters that never goes out of style. Whether you decide to dress your child up as Alice from the Disney classic or as the Alice from Tim Burton’s movie, your child will no doubt be in style.
Makeup can add a lot to the overall effect of the costume. For example, you can use just a hint of blush on your daughter’s cheeks to help add color to her face. A slight bit of blue eye shadow on her eyelids will help to accent her dress and bring out the color of her eyes. Some clear lip gloss will complete the effect. If your child has sensitive skin, make sure to use hypo-allergenic makeup. Make sure to remove the makeup as soon as possible after trick-or-treating to prevent any allergic reactions.
It is the little details that really will make the costume look convincing. For instance, Alice absolutely should have long, blonde hair! If your daughter already has blonde hair, you won’t even need to purchase a wig. Instead, you may want to purchase a nice black hairband to accent her dress and beautiful hair. If your daughter doesn’t have blonde hair, you will definitely need to purchase a wig. It is not too difficult to find wigs. You can find good quality wigs for children at costume stores or online.
Some costumes may or may not include all of the props necessary to create a convincing “Alice”. Your costume should include:
- A blue dress with puffy short sleeves
- A white apron or frock that ties in the back of the dress
- White stockings or white knee highs
- Plain black shoes that have a low heel. These shoes are often referred to as “Mary Jane shoes”. If you can not find the shoes that you need, you can also use black ballet slippers. These slippers can be purchased at shoe stores or at dance supply stores.
- A black hair ribbon to go over the wig.
If you have time, you may want to add other details to create a great costume. Your daughter might want to carry a small bottle that is labeled “Drink me” as well as a cookie that is labeled “Eat me”. She could also carry a stuff white rabbit as she goes door to door. Your other children may want to dress up as Wonderland characters including the Queen, the King, or the Mad Hatter.
Above all else, remember to have fun. Years from now, your daughter probably won’t remember all the intricate details of her costume. What she will remember is the fun that she had getting dressed up and spending time with her family!
