Circus Costumes

Who doesn't like a circus? Circuses have been around for hundreds of years and entertain young and old alike. Perhaps you have always wanted to be a circus star but never had the chance. If so, you may want to dress up in a circus costume during the Halloween season.

Of course, there is a sinister side to the circus too. Many times, clowns and other types of performers are portrayed as villains. Because of this darker side, a circus costume is perfect for the season.

Circus costumes for Halloween are available in a variety of different styles. In order to find the style that is right for you, take a trip to your local costume store. If you don't find the perfect costume there, you may want to do some online shopping.

Before you decide on a specific costume type, you should definitely look around at what is available. The closer it gets to Halloween, the smaller the selection will get. Keep this in mind when you are making your choices. In other words, don't wait too long or you may be out of luck!

Here are some ideas for great circus costumes:

Evil Clown Costumes
There are a number of really good looking evil clown costumes available. If you already have a clown costume, you just may want to find a scary clown mask. Otherwise, look for a costume with a jester hat and long clown shoes. Clown costumes decorated with purple and green diamonds seem to be very appropriate for the evil clown look. Add a rubber knife as a prop and you will be very scary looking indeed!

The Sinister Ring Master
The Ring Master controls the show in the circus and makes sure that the performers are doing their jobs. His job is to keep the audience entertained or under his control. In order to pull off this look, you will need a coat with tails and a black top hat. Add a scary mask and a whip to complete the look. Of course, what sinister Ring Master costume is complete without a long, thin mustache? Make sure your mask features one.

The Evil Acts
Circus acts are designed to entertain or perhaps torture a captive audience. One act that could be very scary in the right context is the knife throwing act. You may want to dress up as a knife thrower and ask your girlfriend to dress up as a human target. The man may wear a white tunic and black pants. Remember to purchase rubber knives as props!

The female of the act will usually wear a short white dress that has been torn due to the knives that supposedly have been thrown at her. A little bit of fake blood around the holes in the fabric can help to complete the look. You may even want to make it seem as if some of the knives have been impaled in her arms and legs. Other props including a long, blonde wig will go a long way to creating a convincing costume.
